Part II of

“You are a piece of the puzzle of someone’s life. You may never know where you fit, but others will fill the holes in their lives with pieces of you.”
Getting ready as a young woman for a night out with your girlfriends is a God given ritual. You line up the evening beforehand and determine a few key elements to enlist before the night ensues. You know when you’re going to meet, where you’re going to go and you know the feeling you want to have as a young free bird amongst your flock.
You put on the music you like to set the mood and pick out your outfit with a fine tooth comb, trying on a few options to consider along the way. You nitpick what the pants do for the top and vice versa. You hold up different earrings as you tilt your chin to the left, and then to the right to compare and contrast, and continue to change items out until the moment that you can assess that the sum total of the parts chosen feel just right against the entirety of your silhouette.
You take your time to lay out the pieces on your bed one by one as an artist would do with their supplies, their paint brushes and their colors and their water can and their charcoal, just so– all the tools necessary gathered to bring the vision to life.
You then shower for purity, you scrub your skin to feel anew, and you shave for preparation and the sense of allure. You use all the products that you’re taught to use as a girl, and then some that you’ve found along the way that signify you have the edge on what you're doing as an actual woman– although you’re only just 18.
But of course, at that age you think you know everything.
